2020: Hualien Local Handmade New Collection Exhibition & Sale | Chu-Yi Studio / Chun Shan

Organized by the Innovation & Incubation Center of Arts and Creative Industries at National Dong Hwa University, Azure Hotel provided an interactive platform on our first floor to showcase new handmade creations by local Hualien artists. Featuring unique handcrafted works from Chu-Yi Studio and Chun Shan, the exhibition invited travelers from all over to appreciate these exquisite artisanal creations while experiencing the unique cultural charm of Hualien. Through these fine handmade items, guests had the opportunity to connect deeply with Hualien's artistic atmosphere and take home a memorable piece of local culture.

Chu-Yi Studio — Liu Hsiu-chen

Fashion designer Liu Hsiu-chen specializes in crafting with fabrics, textiles, and yarns. She established her personal studio in Hualien, focusing on cultural product design, lifestyle goods, and apparel.

With nearly a decade of professional experience in fashion design and tailoring, Liu has collaborated with Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store (Nanxi Store 3) since 2017. Her floral-inspired plant installation concepts—created for the service counter and casual denim lounge using upcycled denim—received widespread acclaim. Her work focuses on fabric design and denim upcycling, deconstructing discarded jeans and layering them through hand and machine sewing to craft floral forms.

In partnership with EDWIN for World Earth Day, her team collected 400 to 500 pairs of recycled jeans. Recognizing that consumers are often hesitant about recycled fabrics, she uses this platform to demonstrate that denim is a sustainable, earth-friendly material.

Her professional background includes working as a fashion designer for Yipeng High Fashion in Taipei and serving as an arts and crafts instructor at Tainan Art Village. She was also invited to participate in the 2020 Uzbekistan Textile & Weaving Art Festival, exhibiting three years of research and creative outcomes in upcycled fashion, lifestyle goods, and cultural product design utilizing regenerated materials, textiles, denim, and second-hand fabrics.

Chun Shan

Free of flashy colors, artificial fragrances, and chemical additives, Chun Shan embraces traditional wisdom by utilizing ancient European cold-process soapmaking techniques. Infused with pure Chinese herbal formulations, their soaps deliver the most wholesome and natural care for your skin.
