2020: Bicycle Travel Photography Exhibition Hosted at Azure Hotel

From traditional cameras to smartphones, capturing memories through photography has become an everyday part of modern life. In this age of information, everyone is a photographer. Among them is amateur photographer and avid traveler Mr. Richard Chien, who has spent years documenting the people, places, and moments he encountered during his worldwide bicycle journeys.

By a serendipitous opportunity, Azure Hotel discovered Mr. Chien’s photography and invited him to showcase his work within the hotel. Centered around the theme "On the Road," the exhibition featured ten selected photographs. The collection captured serene moments from Shiding's historic tea village, the quiet countryside life of Shifen, and the sunset rhythms of farming in Yizhu, Chiayi. It also depicted photographers gathering at Puli’s Hutou Mountain for the sunrise, canoes drifting gently over Lanyu’s clear waters, and the vibrant summer harvest celebration of sea rice in the Donghe tribe of Taitung. Further afield, the imagery highlighted the courage of a young boy plunging into the water in Albania, an empty waterpark set against an expansive sky, the blending of tradition and modernity in Istanbul, Turkey, and a captivating village landscape nestled before the Italian Alps.

Reflecting on his work, Mr. Richard Chien shared that traveling the world on his bicycle and capturing what unfolded before him was not only a way to document life, but also a journey to rediscover his authentic self. This exhibition offered a spiritual retreat, inviting viewers to experience the emotional resonance of diverse cultures and landscapes while joining the photographer's continuous journey of discovery. Each photograph served as a personal voyage, guiding guests through moving moments and leaving them with a lasting sense of beauty and wonder.
